Child Abuse: Under Penal Code 273d PC, California law defines child abuse, or corporal injury on a child, as imposing physical injury or cruel punishment on a minor under the age of 18. The offense may be filed as a misdemeanor or felony and is punishable by up to 6 years in jail or prison. Child Endangerment: Under Penal Code 273a PC, California law defines child endangerment as willfully exposing a child under the age 18 to unjustifiable pain, suffering or danger. A person can be charged for subjecting the child to an unreasonable risk or harm, even if the child never suffers actual physical harm.
